We are celebrate Koninginnedag ("Queen's Day"),
a national holiday to commemorate the birthday
of the country's (former) Queen.
It is by far the most widely celebrated holiday in the Netherlands.
On Queen's Day citizens do not need
a permit to sell goods on the street.
On this day the country turns into one big flea market,
on which everybody can sell second hand trinkets they no longer use.

The (rest of the) day is reserved for an open air party.
Especially Amsterdam has a reputation for celebrating Queen's Day
and generally draws somewhere between 500.000 and 2 million tourists
from the rest of the country.

The current monarch, Queen Beatrix,
visits towns on Queen's Day
where she is received with special celebrations,
often in the form of demonstrations of old-fashioned dances and crafts.

The photo below ...
This is our Queen "BEATRIX" she is now 72 years old !!
and that her son be the successor,
King Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima

But the exact date is still a secret ;)
Here a picture from Willem Alexander , Maxima and kids :)

For a full day and night
the streets flood with people happy, wild and .... orange
in celebrating the Queens birthday.
Orange because it’s the national colour,
stemming back to the 16th century
and Prince William I of The Family Nassau, House of Orange.
A colour of royal and national pride for Holland,
and they love to show it on Queens Day.
Orange is everywhere, even in the sky.
The sun always shines on Queens Day,
against any and all meteorological predictions ;)
